A long history on the river

A post office was established in 1889, and by 1914 the town had two general stores and a newspaper. Its population peaked around 500 in the 1930s. A flood on September 17, 1936, destroyed the Baptist encampment and parts of the town. Many homes along the river today are either older or have been rebuilt and added to over the decades.
